In 1874, De Nittis showed several paintings at the first Impressionist exhibition ever held. He often painted figures in winter; his works had an almost photographic quality. Editor in Chief Rebecca Craik comments on A walk: “Although we know that falls lead to unintentional injuries, there is still little information related to the mechanism of falls. Robinovitch and colleagues installed videocameras in dining rooms, lounges, and hallways in 2 long-term care facilities to record people as they fell [Lancet. 2013;381(9860):47–54]. The most frequent cause of falling was incorrect weight shifting. Can you imagine these women trying to stay upright in the wind, with those bustles and with their hands in their muffs?”
